Flaxella is a little coffee shop on the very edge of Bethesda, on the edge of Wisconsin Avenue before the long sidewalk to NIH. It’s been there for a few years now, and offers a healthy alternative to coffee. Flaxseed is from the flax plant, which is used to make linen. Flaxseed is filled with omega-3 fatty acids and fiber.
It’s a lot healthier than straight coffee, but Flaxella puts coffee in your flax, along with mocha, milk, and whatever else you’d like to order. You can get hummus, egg sandwiches, salads, soups, and oatmeal. The price is about the same as Starbucks, cheaper depending on the size you order. (There are no venti options, for better or for worse). Flax kind of tastes like yarn, but not distractingly so. You can still enjoy the other flavors in your drink.
I’d recommend this place for anyone who’s sick of Starbucks’ uniformity.
